In the subterranean space, an existentialist allegory unfolds through distorted soundscapes and 3D animation. A train cutting through Christmas fireworks signals the fracturing and reconstitution of subjectivity. As an autobiographical expression of a gay Chinese man in Holland, the work examines the dual oppression of Eurocentrism and Chinese nationalism. Through the figure of a pornography translator, it unfolds a critical meditation on gender normativity and cultural imagination.
In a dreamlike narrative woven through Chinese, Japanese, and English, stigmatized symbols of bananas and Twinkies are recoded as tools of resistance. Their oscillation between inflation and deflation bears witness to diasporic solitude while subversively rewriting East Asian stereotypes. Through linguistic instability, the work opens a poetic space for reimagining subjectivity for audiences dwelling at the intersections of identity, sexuality, and cultural displacement.
