The Ruined Map

The Ruined Map is set in the context of my arrival in the Netherlands as a gay Chinese man, in the framework of the inter-imperiality between mainland China and Western. Under the inseparable pressure of imaginary community, masculinity, and pharmacopornographic technology, a Chinese male grew up under the influence of Western pornography and ended up as a porn translator in Rotterdam. Strong displacement and dysphoria are embodied in banana and twinkie’s animation, inspiring a re-imagining of East Asia. The original text is written in Chinese, Japanese, and English, mingling like the waters of an estuary. Through a hauntingly dreamlike narrative and the impossible clues found therein, the transition process from subjective scale to planetary scale is approached in a kind of linguistic chaos and instability.
