A three-volume work exploring Chinese queer subculture through a mix of digital and personal imagery. The project grew from my experience as a queer person born in a conservative Chinese city who found refuge in Shanghai's cosmopolitan queer culture. I collected language and images that have proliferated on the internet and flourished in Chinese queer subculture, combining them with my selfies, street photography, and various images from my phone albums.

The work is structured in three distinct volumes. "Eden" introduces the series with exotic landscapes and vibrant colors, representing the allure of urban queer spaces. "The Orchid Man," the second volume, presents a concentrated mix of images from various sources, exploring the intersection of identity and urban space. The final volume, "WishList," draws inspiration from homosexual pornographic magazines, fetishistically preserving their low-fidelity effects and reflective sheen.

Through these volumes, I aim to discuss how queer culture in Shanghai is configured within debates of cosmopolitanism and urban politics. The work examines sexual stereotypes, the construction of masculinity, and its commodification processes. More importantly, it reveals how these different identities and spaces are lived and experienced by ordinary people, while exploring possible ways of resisting dominant narratives within Chinese society.
